The 4400

The 4400 tells the stories of 4,400 people who disappeared over a period of fifty years and they all reappear at the exact same time without any memory of where they've been and what happened to them. Some of them have been altered and have strange abilities, both good and bad. The series kicks off with a ball of light sailing toward Earth, but rather than the expected catastrophic event, thousands of people emerge from the ball of light.
In my opinion it goes beyond sci-fi into the real world and real life. The 4400 dwell between extreme power and helplessness. They have power to change and save the world and are many times discriminated for what they are. Who are the 4400 in our society, our neighborhoods? Have you ever felt that some people are out of place or rejected? Do you feel that they have a gift to contribute to change the world? In what ways are they powerful or helpless? Are they just outcasts or visionaries of some sort? Listen to this song and pay attention to the lyrics (Amanda Abuzaid "A Place in Time"). What do these images and these words tell you? Please, leave your comments.

The Year I Have Learned the Most

I do think that 2006 was a turning point in my teaching career. Everything began at Sorocaba and the Hornby Summer School. The course triggered a series of changes in my views relating to teaching and learning. In february, I changed job and started working in a place where I learned more and put into practice all the things I had started learning in Sorocaba. It is really surprising to think that I have learned many things from the comfort of my home without going to any course, and what is even more weird, some people might say, with people that I don´t even know (except Bee (Barbara Dieu) , which I am very proud to say, yes I have her personally twice). I cannot forget to mention Carla Arena and Erika Cruvinel with whom I have the privilege to work with. In 2007, I want to continue learning and spreading the news about the impact of technology in teaching and learning.
